The first full-length album by Born in the Flood was "If This Thing Should Spill," released in February 2007. Rateliff formed Born in the Flood in 2002 and they quickly gained a large following in Denver. Before entering his current career, Rateliff worked as a carpenter, trucking depot, and then a gardener. At the age of 13, he lost his father in a car crash, and since then, he began to write songs and play guitar.
